Title: Fire Burns in the Most Unlikely of Places
Fandom: Bleach
Pairing: Hisagi Shuuhei/Kira Izuru
Rating: PG-15
Warnings: Boys kissing, some angst
Disclaimer: Bleach belongs to Tite Kubo and related companies, I just like to play with his characters.
Summary: "You're too used to feeling things like terror."
Author's Notes: Written for winteraconite's prompt "Rain"
Yes, this was originally meant to be a drabble. The Muse ran away with the prompt and so this is now 1,417 words long. Whee.
The weather really is awful today, Hisagi thinks as he searches the gardens near the 3rd division’s buildings, shielded from the weather by the umbrella a subordinate had pressed on him before leaving the 9th division.
“Hey, Hisagi-san, have you seen Kira?”
Renji’s words from a little while before ring in his head as Hisagi turns another corner, peering ahead to see through the rain sheeting down around him.
“No-one’s seen him for a couple hours. Anyone else and I’d know they wouldn’t go out in this, but Kira likes the rain. Always has.”
He wasn’t here, but Renji would have already looked in the most obvious places. Hisagi wonders where Kira could be that Renji wouldn’t have searched already. He stops for a moment, a thought caught at the edge of his mind. Concentrating hard on forgotten memories pulls up an image of a secret grove, leading to an isolated meadow. Kira had laughed there.
Wondering if Renji had neglected to look there, or if he had simply forgotten, Hisagi turns and shunpo’s to where he now knows Kira will be.
When he sees the cross-legged figure in the middle of the open space, Hisagi sighs with relief. Kira is drenched, hair stuck to his face and uniform clinging to his body, but at least he has been found.
Squatting down beside his rain-soaked friend, Hisagi offers a soft smile.
“Hey.” Kira glances up at him briefly, and then back down to his hands folded in his lap.
“Hey.” he echoes, emotionless.
“What’re you doing out here?” Hisagi plucks at Kira’s sleeve. “You’re all wet.” He considers briefly putting the umbrella over Kira, but something makes him hesitate.
“I know.” Hisagi can’t really call the blonde on stating the obvious now, so he switches track and tugs gently at Kira’s arm.
“C’mon, how about I get you inside and warmed up? You’ll catch your death of a cold out here.” Hisagi’s poor attempt at humour falls flat, Kira giving him that same blank stare; droplets of water leaving trails down his face, running over and between his drenched fringe, making him look like he was crying.
“I want to stay.” Kira’s voice is unwavering. It is a statement of fact, rather than a wish of what he wants to happen. Hisagi releases Kira’s clothes, acceding to the command of the voice, but still questioning.
“Why?” Hisagi watches as Kira’s fingers lace with one another in a tight grip at the question, though he doesn’t look up.
“It’s the only way I can feel.” Kira whispers, lips tinged with blue forming the words slowly. He can see Hisagi doesn’t understand, and he’s not even entirely sure he understands it himself.
“I’ve been numb for a while now. When I sit here in the rain, I can feel the cold, feel the drops running down me, the heavy fabric pressing into me.” He pauses a moment, head tilted back to catch more of the water. Kira is trembling, his body knowing the dangers even if his mind doesn’t. Hisagi doesn’t say a word.
“Most people would say those were bad feelings, right? But it feels good too. Like the rain’s washing me clean. Like I’m being purified.” Hisagi hears what that quiet, steady voice doesn’t say. He understands now.
“You say this is the only way you feel.” His statement is as flat as Kira’s was earlier. “All the energy has left your life; your normal routine leaves you wanting. You just don’t feel anymore, now that…” Hisagi leaves it trailing, but Kira just nods slowly, knowing what he would have said.
Hisagi lets the umbrella drop to the ground beside them, paying no heed to the raindrops now flattening his hair and darkening his clothes. He kneels in front of Kira, ignoring the mud and water that seeps through his hakama.
Kira only looks up when Hisagi places his hand on the back of his neck.
“You’re too used to feeling things like terror.” Hisagi murmurs, leaning in closer and drawing Kira with him.
Kira is confused. The hand made him jump, a feeling he understood, but now the skin underneath has begun to heat up, tingling lines spreading out from beneath to run down his spine and make him shiver.
“It’s been too long since someone showed you how to feel other things.” Hisagi’s continuing litany brings a hundred questions to the front of Kira’s mind, but the most pressing are answered when he presses his lips against Kira’s own.
There’s a thousand things to feel all at once, bombarding his senses. The rain around them fades to almost nothing, insignificant background to what is taking place. Hisagi is applying gentle pressure to the back of his neck; his other hand now on Kira’s thigh, fingers kneading almost unconsciously and bringing heat with them there too.
Hisagi’s lips are softer than Kira would have expected, moving gently against his own. They seem to be the centre of the strange warmth that is moving through Kira now; lingering longer in his cheeks before moving down to the rest of his body, pooling in his stomach, racing down his arms and rushing to join up with the electric sparks from Hisagi’s still moving fingers.
When the hand on his neck moves up to fist in his hair, Kira whimpers; the slight jolt of pain immediately absorbed into the whole as Hisagi pushes a little harder against his lips. Taking a chance, following some forgotten instinct, he opens his mouth at the prompting.
His entire body feels super heated now, a flush rising to replace the slight blue tinge. Kira moans softly as Hisagi slips his tongue into the kiss, stroking along the top of Kira’s own and encouraging it into action, darting back out to run along his bottom lip and tempting Kira to follow.
Kira’s hand moves up to cup Hisagi’s cheek, marvelling at the heat he finds there. Hisagi seems so much warmer than himself, a fiery soul deigning to share his heat with his own cold heart. He wants to be closer, shifting to follow Hisagi, delving into his mouth and wrapping an arm around his waist, pulling gently. Hisagi understands, moving to sit rather than kneel and pulling Kira into his lap, not breaking the kiss.
Kira can feel himself melting, the numbness receding to be replaced with Hisagi’s fire; pure, raging. Hisagi still takes the lead with their kiss; guiding Kira, showing him what to do with his tongue, where to press and glide for the most impact.
Hisagi grunts softly as Kira wraps his legs around his waist and Kira lets up the pressure a little, unwilling to let go. Hisagi moves this kiss now, trailing heat down Kira’s neck. Kira has one hand twisted in Hisagi’s uniform, the other over his shoulder, and his breath catches as Hisagi pulls gently at his hair to tilt his head back, exposing more of Kira’s sensitive skin. His other hand holds Kira close as he finds a spot that makes the younger squirm in his arms, eyes wide.
Kira’s skin is still cold to the touch, but Hisagi thinks only that it makes for an interesting change. Biting gently at that same spot produces an interesting reaction, Kira’s breath now coming in short gasps. He recaptures Kira’s mouth with his own, more forceful now than the last, and Kira begins reciprocating much quicker this time.
The kiss slows almost reluctantly. When they finally break apart Hisagi is soaked too, but neither take any notice. Hisagi brushes Kira’s hair away from his face, his fingers leaving a tingling trail in their wake.
“Can you feel now?” It’s a simple question with an impossible answer.
“More than I have in a long time.” But Kira finds one, whispering it while the fingers of one hand trace circles over Hisagi’s shoulder. “Hisagi-san, what was-” Hisagi shakes his head and Kira halts, curiosity still in his eyes.
“We should both get out of this rain, find some dry clothes. We can discuss it then.” Kira agrees, reluctantly standing and feeling the weather in the way Hisagi does for the first time that evening. But he’s still not cold, and doesn’t think he will be for a while now with Hisagi’s warmth still glowing within him.
They run back to the third under the now useless umbrella, one still confused, the other just beginning to find consequences, but both happier than they can say they’ve been in some time.
Descriptive writing and I are forever at war, so please tell me what you thought of this ^-^
Muse also decded to change the tense to present half way through, so if I've messed up any tenses please nudge me (and anything else I've managed to miss ^-^)
Hope you like it Antha! :D

Date: 2009-04-16 11:04 pm (UTC)I'm always describing kisses just as "he kissed him" (or her) so I really needed to work on that ^-^
... Now I have the image of chibi Shuu physically 'knocking Kira out of his emo'. Poor Izu, I do abuse him so.
